On the Level-Tips on Where to Build Your Shed

Request a Quote

Storage-ShedYou want to buy a shed. Whether it’s because the clutter around your house has built up too much or you need a private work space, you have finally decided that a shed is exactly what you need. Now the only question that remains is where you will put this new addition to your property.

There are lots of different factors you have to consider when deciding where to place your storage shed. Your first step is to check into city and county building codes. Some municipalities require that you have a building permit and others also have specific requirements on how close your shed can be to other buildings, property lines, walls, etc. Your local Home Owner’s Association also might have restrictions on where and what type of shed you can construct. The last thing you want is to have a huge fine slapped on your bank account or have construction halted because you didn’t get the right permits.

Convenience is the next thing to keep in mind. If you want a personal office or a hobby space, how far are you willing to walk from your house in the rain, ice, or snow? Even if you just want a shed for storage, it is important to consider how often you will be needing the contents inside (i.e. storing your extra furniture vs the lawn mower).

Also, don’t forget aesthetics. Will your new shed obstruct any of your favorite views? Will it draw undue attention away from your house or garden? You don’t want such a big purchase to be an eyesore for years and years to come.

Finally, even though leveling is done before construction, try to find a building area that won’t require a lot of earth moving. As a bonus, at Hometown Sheds of NC, we offer free lifetime leveling for portable sheds in case soft ground causes your shed to tilt. We also deliver whatever you purchase straight to your home or business and take care of the assembly, so all you need to do is find the perfect building spot, pick your shed, and we will do the rest!
